What rope and chain do I need?

South Pacific now supplies rope

To take the hassle of out finding the correct type and size of rope, we now supply rope that has been especially designed to suit our anchor windlasses.

They come in either the 12mm (1/2”) or 14mm (9/16”) and in bundles of 50 metres or 100 metres.

Choosing the correct size rope and chain

Using the correct size rope and chain is vital to ensure smooth operation of the anchor windlass. Please find below a table setting out the specifications for your particular model.

IMPORTANT!
Please make sure that a hard rope is used. If the rope is too soft, it will cause jamming or slipping. There are 3 simple ways to test the strength of the rope:

  • Squeeze the rope – you should feel the strength as opposed to some types of soft ropes that are too soft and becomes softer when wet.
  • Try to untwist the rope – the three strands should not separate too easily.
  • Lay the rope on a flat surface. Take one end in your hands about 10cm from the very end, then bend the rope towards the ceiling so that the length in your hand is at right angles to the flat surface. The rope should remain upright and not fall limp towards the flat surface.
